Patient Education

Patient Program Overview
The goals of the patient program elements are to inform attendees about the latest findings in lupus research and review current clinical practices, trials and treatments; as well as to provide multiple opportunities for patients and lupus experts to interact in formal and informal panel settings and joint plenary sessions.

Themes and topics are in planning which reflect the interests of respondents to surveys from over 140 lupus organizations around the globe. Program content will be presented under three broad categories:

I. Understanding Lupus – Themes will include symptoms, diagnosing and treating lupus, and how lupus affects children, and men.

II. What is Current – The latest research to better understand lupus, and promising efforts to find new treatments will be explored. Activities of Lupus International Organizations will also be discussed with representatives of lupus societies from around the world.

III. Living with Lupus – Patient participants will explore with lupus experts the latest in nutrition and diet, coping with stress, exercise and fitness, pregnancy and lupus, how lupus impacts the family, and lupus in the workplace.

Walk Together for Lupus

Friday June 25th, 2010
6:00AM - 6:45AM

Do you want to do something meaningful for and contribute to the world-wide fight against lupus?

On Friday AM, June 25th, make your statement about the importance of lupus. Start the day with a demonstration of support for persons with lupus by walking along Vancouver’s Seawall. Enjoy a coffee or hot chocolate, get some exercise, participate in the comeraderie of the international lupus community and be invigorated by the panoramic views of the harbour and Stanley Park at sunrise.

All registered participants of LUPUS2010 are welcome; persons with lupus, scientists, clinicians, trainees, family, and friends are encouraged to join the Walk to make the statement that we need better recognition of the impact of lupus on the lives of affected persons and their families as well as new treatments and better access to care for people with lupus worldwide – now!

Meet at 6:00 AM for coffee or hot chocolate at The Vancouver Convention Centre Lobby. It’s not a race; everyone is a winner in this Walk. You can walk at your own pace (or come in a wheelchair) beginning at 6:15 AM and be a part of something special. The Walk may seem like a small gesture, but it symbolizes that there is strength in walking together toward the goal of a cure for lupus.
